The UP government has removed the special prosecutor it had appointed for the cases related to communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, which killed 62. While the government did not give any reason for removing lawyer Nasir Ali, an objection had been filed in the apex court against his appointment as a special prosecutor.

Ali, who was appointed the special prosecutor for appearing in cases related to communal riots, stopped appearing for the cases from Thursday after he received a letter from the Law Department about his removal.
“I have received a letter on Thursday from LR (Legal Remembrancer) for my removal from the post of special prosecutor in riot-related cases. I stopped appearing for the cases after that,” said Ali. He said there is no reason specified in the letter
The riot cases are being investigated by a Special Investigation Cell, formed by the government.
