Finding the proposed mono rail project unviable and unsuitable for Himachal Pradesh,Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Thursday said the government was instead looking into possibilities of an alternate mode of transport to de-congest heavy traffic in Shimla and Dharamsala. “A feasibility study will be set up to explore adoption of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) Podcars in the two key towns. Apart from providing a reliable rapid and personal taxi service, the PRT will be a centre of tourist attraction,” he said while reviewing the working of the urban development, town and country planning and HIMUDA during a meeting.

The Chief Minister said the PRT was the latest green solution in alternate transport sector, which requires only 2.1 meters wide track in comparison to10-meter track required for mono rail.

He said that automated Podcars can seat four to six people, are battery powered, driverless, run on elevated guide way and are easy to install as most of its structure comes pre-fabricated.
