A petition, filed by Puthiya Tamilagam party leader K Krishnasamy, alleged that it would promote enmity between the Thevar community and the backward classes. Following this, the division bench of the Madras High Court on Monday appointed a committee of two retired judges to verify the petition by watching the film with both parties.
Claiming that the movie will trigger clashes between two groups, Krishnasamy alleged that the movie was set in the background of villages in Ramanathapuram which is already facing communal problems. But Komban producer S R Prabhu said the film, which is directed by Muthiah, is an autobiographic story of the director himself. “It is the story of his father and his grandfather. We are not glorifying or tarnishing the image of any community. This is purely family-oriented,” he said.
However, the screening on Tuesday had to be stopped midway after the producer refused to hand over the script to MLA Krishnasamy. Prabhu said there is no reason for him to demand the script when it is already cleared by the censor board.
Meanwhile, as the matter came up again in the court on Tuesday, judges said the final order will be issued on Wednesday based on a report submitted by the committee.
Sources said that since there is no written order preventing the release and the main plea was to stop censor board certification, which has already been given, they may even pre-pone the release to April 1.
