BJP Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that “jihad in the name of love is unacceptable” and that only a BJP-led government in UP can “stop forceful conversion of Hindu girls”. He also categorised “love Jihad” as “a national and social problem”.
Speaking at a poll campaign in Hamirpur, Adityanath rued how demolition of a disputed structure in Ayodhya became “a global issue” while a “proposal” in Saudi Arabia to remove the tomb of Prophet Mohammad “hardly raised any eyebrows”.

Shifting his focus to Narendra Modi government’s announcement of relief to J&K flood victims, Adityanath said, “Modi government will extend help to affected areas of ghulam Kashmir, too, as it’s a part of India and India will get it finally.” He added that the Centre’s assurance to Pakistan that India is willing to help the country deal with the flood situation was a measure of how “Hindu dharma believes in jiyo or jeene do”.
He then recalled an incident from the last year when UP police stopped him from going to Jhansi to take part in a “jalabhishek” programme because the Shiv temple where the programme was scheduled is located in a muslim-dominated area. “That temple will be freed in coming days and I will go for jalabhishek then,” he said.
Adityanath’s next address was before a gathering in Charkhari Assembly constituency.
Bringing up Moradabad’s Kanth issue, Adityanath said, “The violence was the result of the removal of a temple loudspeaker on the objection raised by a few Muslims. But no one objects when loudspeakers are used at mosques.”
He added that UP lacks development, proper power supply and basic infrastructure and crime rate in the state is high.
