Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday claimed he was not aware of former DGP (Prison) Shashi Kant sending any report to the Punjab Police where he had named jail officials and politicians involved in the narcotics trade.

Asked whether the government will take action against those named in the report,Sukhbir said: “I have not seen any such list.” He,however, was quick to assure that there will be not any let up in the state government’s drive against drug mafia and smugglers.

Sukhbir was speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a religious congregation organised on the occasion of the 107th birth anniversary of Sant Tirlok Singh at Kahna Dhesia dera.

On Saturday,Kant had claimed he had sent a report to DGP Sumedh Singh Saini over a year ago, naming 185 jail officials, top 10 leaders and businessmen who were running the drug mafia in Punjab. He had added that as the report was sent though a proper channel,a copy of which must be lying with the state home department — led by Sukhbir.

Asked about the 1984 memorial proposed at Gurdwara Rakabgan in New Delhi,Sukhbir said: “It was purely a decision of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.” The committee, meanwhile,is controlled by SAD.

Meanwhile,Sukhbir said Punjab is set to announce a comprehensive package for the welfare of farmers and labourers, including farm labourers, for which details are being worked out by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

If allowed,Punjab can sell power to Pakistan: Sukhbir

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday by December, all three thermal plants at Talwandi Sabo,Goindwal Sahib and Rajpura will be operational, making Punjab the first power surplus state in the country. “Punjab will be in position to sell power to other deficient states and if allowed,to Pakistan and other neighbouring countries as well,” Sukhbir said while assuring uninterrupted eight-hour power supply for paddy sowing, beginning June 10. He added: “Powercom has been given a nod to set up 64 and 128 KV power stations and the chief minister has already approved a power trading corporation. The proposed corporation will be the most advanced computerised power trading exchange, which would be able to trade power online without wastage of single unit.”
