A senior journalist from a local newspaper was allegedly threatened and beaten up by a personnel of India Reserve Battalion, and later detained over “theft” charges during a routine check here.
Paojel Chauba, 39, a senior journalist from the Imphal Free Press, said he was manhandled by the security person on Monday night near the northern gate of Kangla Fort — a road frequently used by VIPs as a thoroughfare.
The journalist alleged he was asked to lie down in dust, grabbed by the collar and punched by a constable, identified only as MM. “He threatened me and said ‘main tujhe thok dunga (I’ll shoot you dead)’,” Chauba told The Indian Express. He has got four stitches on his head for the injury. He was later detained by the police. The cops, however, did not comment on the allegations.
