In an effort to provide proper guidance and grooming,the Jammu and Kashmir government has distributed scholarships,worth Rs 6.50 lakh,among 139 Scheduled Tribe students,an official spokesman said on Friday.
The cheques were distributed by Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo under ‘Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Tribes’ at a function,organised by Directorate of Tribal Affairs,at Women College on Thursday.
Addressing the function,Itoo said the government is keen on providing every facility to students living in remotest parts of the state.
The talented youth of the state need proper grooming and guidance to succeed in different fields of economic activities,she said,adding that the Centre is also liberally funding the state under various social welfare schemes.
