Suggesting that the recent attack on students from Northeast in the national capital are part of a “racial profiling” trend, Inner Manipur MP Thokchom Meinya said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday that he would appeal to people from the region to not tolerate this.
“There is apparently a huge presence of racial profiling in the metro cities of the country. They should try not to tolerate this. I am not instigating. It has become too much. Enough is enough,” Thokchom Meinya said, suggesting that the recent incidents have led to a situation where “the people of the Northeast feel alienated from the mainland”.
He demanded that the MHA, and Delhi administration in particular, take the recent incidents seriously and evolve a “long-term strategy to solve the alleged apprehension of racial profiling”. Meinya raised this issue amid protests by the members from Andhra Pradesh.
