SAI suicide pact: Health of three Kerala athletes improving

The health condition of the three athletes, who had consumed a poisonous fruit as part of a suicide pact, has slightly improved. Sources at medical college hospital in Alappuzha, where they have been admitted informed but stated that it cannot be said that they were out of danger.

Hospital sources said the condition of the victims who have consumed the poisonous ‘othalanga’ can deteriorate anytime due to the toxic nature of the fruit. “We are also looking into the option of shifting the athletes elsewhere for expert treatment,” sources said.

Compensation for SAI victim

Sports Authority of India director-general Injeti Srinivas on Friday visited the family of athlete Aparna Ramabhadran in Alappuzha, who died after consuming a poisonous fruit alleging torture.

Srinivas gave a cheque of Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the family of the deceased and offered job for her mother Geetha.

Earlier in the day, he met the three athletes undergoing treatment at medical college in Alappuzha. He said the treatment is given in consultation with a team of doctors from AIMS Delhi. Three three athletes, who had consumed the poisonous fruit, are recovering, although they are not out of danger.
