The Centre will create an Aadhaar-linked national database of health records of individuals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided on Friday during a high-level meeting with Union Health Minister J P Nadda and concerned officials.

During the meeting, Modi stressed on the need for ensuring accountability among government doctors and health officials. He also called for establishing synergy in schemes related to the public health sector and asked the ministry to make a plan to observe June 21 as International Yoga Day.

Reviewing progress of key health indicators, such as the under-5 mortality rate and the maternal mortality rate, the PM asked for identification of worst-performing districts, and even blocks, which required maximum attention. He said these areas should be targeted in a two-pronged approach — prioritised health intervention, and appropriate social interventions to dispel beliefs that may hinder progress.
