Bilkis Bano gangrape accused Ramesh Chandana has moved Bombay High Court seeking to serve his sentence in a Gujarat,not Maharashtra,prison.

Bilkis Bano gangrape accused Ramesh Chandana has moved Bombay High Court (HC) seeking to serve his sentence in a Gujarat,not Maharashtra,prison.

Chandana was convicted in the 2002 case with 11 others by a sessions court in January 2008 and sentenced to life. His appeal against the verdict is pending before HC.

After Chandana claimed the state government had made similar allowances in the case of some other accused,HC asked him to present the orders.

Seventeen members of the Bilkis Bano family were attacked by a mob in Gujarat during the March 2002 communal riots. Bilkis,then five months pregnant,was gangraped.
