CCTVs for Haryana observation homes

In the wake of the Apna Ghar sexual abuse case in Rohtak,the Haryana government has decided to install close circuit TV (CCTV) cameras in observation homes and special homes to keep an eye on the employees deployed and the women and juvenile inmates residing at such centres.

In the wake of the Apna Ghar sexual abuse case in Rohtak,the Haryana government has decided to install close circuit TV (CCTV) cameras in observation homes and special homes to keep an eye on the employees deployed and the women and juvenile inmates residing at such centres.

The state women and child development department has issued directions to the district programme officers and superintendents of these homes to take necessary action in this regard.

“While one of the CCTV cameras will be installed at the entrance of each home,others will be installed at vulnerable points,where it was required for security purpose,” said Sumita Mishra,Director General (women and child development).

She added: “The cameras will also be connected to a control unit,which will regularly monitor and record the activities of the juveniles and the staff. It will be installed in the offices of the incharges of such homes.”

In addition to CCTVs,the government was also finalising the modalities to launch the facility of video-conferencing in observation homes,where juveniles are lodged.

This way,in future,juveniles could record their statement through e-conferencing with the magistrate.
