    Rs 92 lakhs cash, gold seized from Assam government official’s residence

    Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam have arrested a government officer after recovering and seizing over Rs 92 lakh cash and gold ornaments from her residence. Nupur Bora, a 2019-batch Assam Civil Services officer, who was posted as Circle Officer in Kamrup district’s Goroimari was taken into custody after simultaneous raids in four locations, including her residence in Guwahati. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said she had been under the scanner for allegedly extracting money to facilitate land transfer from Hindus to Muslims amid government curbs on such actions. Read more

    Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Sonu Sood get ED summons in illegal betting app case

    The Enforcement Directorate has summoned former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, as well as actor Sonu Sood, in connection with its probe into the alleged illegal betting app 1xBet. While Uthappa has been asked to appear before ED on September 22, Singh has been summoned on September 23 and Sood has been directed to be present before the officers on September 24. Earlier, the ED had recorded statements of former Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina in the case. The ED has also summoned former TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty, Bollywood actor Urvashi Rautela, and Bengali actor Ankush Hazra as part of the investigation into alleged violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the betting platform, which is banned in India.     Heavy rain triggers landslides in Dehradun

    At least five people were swept away after heavy rains and cloudburst triggered landslides in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district on Tuesday. A red alert has been issued for Dehradun as heavy rain battered the region. The landslides and flooded rivers have also blocked several key routes, including the Mussoorie–Dehradun Road. The district administration has warned that there is an increased likelihood of landslides and flash floods in sensitive areas and urged tourists not to use the Mussoorie–Dehradun Road until it is reopened.     Israel committing genocide in Gaza, finds UN investigation

    A United Nations commission investigating the war in Gaza said Tuesday that Israel was committing genocide against Palestinians. According to a report by the Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel, established by the UN Human Rights Council in 2021, Israel had committed four of the five “genocidal acts” defined under the 1948 Genocide Convention. Israel has been found to have committed genocidal acts including killing members of a group, inflicting serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately creating conditions of life aimed at physical destruction, and imposing measures to prevent births.     Peter Navarro slams Elon Musk, calls X ‘breeding ground for dark forces’

    White House Trade Advisor Peter Navarro on Tuesday lashed out at Elon Musk, saying that X, the social media platform owned by him, has become a “breeding ground” and “grooming academy for the very dark forces.” Navarro’s criticism of X seems to have been triggered after X recently flagged some of his remarks on India as misleading amid trade tensions. Responding to it, Navarro had claimed that “keyboard minions” hijacked X’s Community Notes feature to suppress facts. Read more
