The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday told Parliament that the data validation for the 2023 National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report is in its “final stage”.
“The data for the reports is collected from 89 data supplying centres which includes 36 States/Union Territories and 53 Metropolitan Cities i.e. cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs,” the ministry said in response to a question by Trinamool Congress member Sagarika Ghose in the Rajya Sabha. “The 2022 report has been published,” the ministry said.
Ghose had sought details on whether the NCRB has published any report after 2022, and the years for which the data has not been published.
“In recent years, the NCRB has been continuously publishing ‘Crime in India’ (CII), ‘Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India’ (ADSI) and ‘Prison Statistics India’ (PSI),” the ministry said in its answer.
The government said that the “publications collate data of a calendar year, hence, the process of collection of data is initiated only after the completion of the respective year”.
“The data is collected digitally through a dedicated software application developed by the Bureau. The data collection and its consolidation/ compilation is done at various levels in the District/State by the States/Union Territories and subsequently by the Bureau, through this software application,” the ministry said.
It also informed that the data submitted by the states and Union Territories is extensively verified and validated at various levels and stages through the inbuilt checks in the software application.
