Tere Naam is regarded as one of the best performances of Salman Khan till date. The film, directed by later actor-director Satish Kaushik, marked the debut of Bhumika Chawla in Bollywood. The film’s soundtrack became an instant hit with songs like “Tere Naam”, “O Jaana” and “Kyun Kisi Ko”. Now, almost 21 years later, actress Mahima Chaudhry, who made a special appearance in the song “O Jaana”, revealed an interesting story about how she ended up being in the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Sethu.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, the actress recalled it was around the time when the actress had met with a near-fatal accident during the shooting of Dil Kya Kare (1999). Her face was severely injured with over 67 glass pieces having pierced it.
She told, “I was not originally supposed to be in this film. After my accident, I wanted to re-enter the industry, so I started taking on songs and guest appearances to remind audiences I was still around. Interestingly, every film I did ended up being a major hit, which led to more offers for similar roles. It became a challenge for me—I thought, ‘If this keeps happening, how will I return to being a leading lady?'”
She added, “Around that time, Satish Kaushik and the team were filming a song sequence in Hyderabad and needed a female lead to dance opposite Salman. They were unsure who to cast, and then Satish called me. I couldn’t say no. When I asked about my costume, he told me to wear my own clothes. So, everything you see in the song—the outfit, the accessories—was mine.”
On the work front, Mahima Chaudhry is waiting the release of her films Emergency and Signature.
