NBEMS NEET PG 2025 Result LIVE Updates: Medical colleges increased from 387 in 2014 to 780: Union Health Minister J P Nadda
The number of medical colleges increased from 387 to 780, undergraduate seats from 51,348 to 1,15,900 and postgraduate seats from 31,185 to 74,306 since 2014, Union Health Minister J P Nadda told the Rajya Sabha.
Responding to a question, Nadda said that the government has increased the number of medical colleges, under-graduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) seats.
There are 13,86,157 registered allopathic doctors and 7,51,768 registered practitioners in the AYUSH system of medicine. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends a doctor to population ratio of 1:1000.
“Assuming that 80 per cent of registered practitioners in both the allopathic and AYUSH systems are available, the doctor-population ratio in the country is estimated to be 1:811,” Nadda said.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on August 3 concluded the NEET PG 2025 exam with more than 2,42,000 candidates. The exam was conducted in a single shift on the computer-based platform across 301 cities and in 1052 test centres. This is the largest computer-based exam in India in terms of number of candidates which has been conducted in a single shift, mentions the press release by NBEMS.
In its release, the Board had made arrangements to ensure the safe, smooth and secure conduct of NEET-PG 2025 to restore the faith of medical graduates in the examination system. For the smooth process of the exam, NBEMS had engaged more than 2200 faculty members from various medical colleges and NBEMS accredited hospitals to appraise the conduct of exam and to ensure zero tolerance towards use of unfair means cases.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) spent significantly more on NEET PG 2024 than the previous year, according to an RTI reply to Dr. Aman Kaushik. While Rs 13.29 crore was paid to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for conducting NEET PG 2023, the 2024 exam cost over Rs 24 crore. Of this, Rs 12.34 crore went towards the computer-based test, Rs 89.58 lakh for CCTV surveillance, and Rs 11.02 crore for the deferred exam, which was postponed a night before the scheduled date. NBEMS also paid Rs 1.94 crore and Rs 2.13 crore to subject matter experts in FY 2023–24 and 2024–25. Read more

Months have passed since April 27, when the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) conducted the WBJEE. As aspirants eagerly await the WBJEE result date and the start of their academic session, the Board has asked candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC communities to upload caste certificates on the official website, wbjeeb.nic.in. The announcement by WBJEEB comes after the Calcutta High Court directed the state to publish a fresh merit list for WBJEE 2025. Registered candidates have time till August 21 to re-upload their caste certificates on the official website’s dashboard.
The reservation issue has not only impacted WBJEE but has also halted the WB NEET UG medical and dental counselling admission process 2025. A notification dated August 18 by the Directorate of Medical Education states that they have put the medical and dental admission process in ‘abeyance till further orders’. India’s first MBBS education was of three years, unlike today, of 4.5 years with one year of mandatory internships. In the first year of the course, Indian students were taught lessons on Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology. In the second and third years, medical students were taught Medicine and Surgery. In the event of two or more candidates obtaining the same score, the merit position shall be determined using the following tiebreaker criteria in descending order:
1. The candidate having a greater number of correct responses in the question paper will be placed at a better merit position.
2. The candidate having a lower number of negative responses in the question paper will be placed at a better merit position.
3. Older candidates will be placed in a better merit position.
4. Candidate securing higher aggregate marks (in percentage) in all MBBS Professional Examinations will be placed at a better merit position. In case of Indian citizens/ OCI who have obtained their primary medical qualifications from outside India, their FMG Examination marks (in percentage) shall be considered in lieu of aggregate marks (in percentage) in all MBBS professional examinations.
The NEET PG rank is the overall merit position of the candidate amongst all the candidates who have appeared in the exam.
