The admission process for nursery in around 1,741 private schools in Delhi started on Thursday as the registration commenced on November 28.
The Delhi government’s Department of Education (DoE) had issued a circular on November 12, announcing that the admission process for nursery, KG and Class 1 in the city’s private schools for the 2025-26 session will begin on November 28. The last date to submit registration forms is December 20, and the first general admission lists will be published on January 17, 2025.
This year, distance from school, siblings studying in the same school, an alumni parent, staff ward, or girl child are some of the key criteria that will help the children secure points for their admission. While the admission criteria and the points awarded differ from school to school, but neighbourhood, alumni parents, and siblings are some common factors. Most of the schools have marked neighbourhoods and distant with maximum points ranging from 30-90.
For admission in pre-school (nursery), pre-primary (KG) and Class 1, the minimum age as on March 31 should be three years, four years and five years respectively, according to the Directorate of Education. Pre-school, pre-primary and Class-1 are classified as entry-level classes and the upper age limit for admission is less than four years, less than five years, and less than six years, respectively. However, parents can submit requests for age relaxation up to a 30-day deviation from the maximum as well as the minimum age limit for admission to the nursery class.
According to DoE data, out of 1,741 schools, only 778 have uploaded their criteria, while 963 are yet to comply. The DoE had instructed all schools to upload the criteria on their official websites by November 25.
