Rohansh Mahajan scored 200/200 marks each in English, economics/ business economics, business studies and accountancy/ book keeping in the recently declared Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2024 results. He also appeared for mathematics and general test.
Born and brought up in Delhi, this 18-year-old topper did his schooling at Apeejay School – Pitampura. He scored 97.4 per cent in Class 10 and 97 per cent in Class 12.
While Rohansh’s parents are doctors, he is not interested in science. He studied commerce and aims to pursue Economics (Hons) at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), DU.
“SRCC is known to provide top-quality education. Also, with my admission, I will get numerous opportunities for exposure and personality development through the college’s sports facilities, festivals and the alumni association,” he said.
“I also have applied for Economics (Hons) at the Hindu College, Hansraj College and the St Stephens’ College under the University of Delhi,” he added.
I have plans to explore courses in finance after my graduation or do a masters in economics if my interest in the subject develops more. However, this is too early to decide now.
Rohansh started his CUET UG preparation in around July 2023. The top scorer speaking to indianexpress.com said that starting early for CUET worked for him in getting the maximum marks in English, economics/ business economics, business studies and accountancy/ book keeping. He was enrolled in Career Launcher for CUET preparation. The board exam preparation also aided this student in his CUET UG preparation.
“A few of my batch mates who thought CUET UG would be a cakewalk and therefore started preparing after the board exams, are now confused as to where they would apply with the marks obtained,” Rohansh said.
“I do not think we are left with sufficient time to open up for perspectives and deep analytical type questions after the board exams,” he added saying that because he started early, he had the time to streamline his preparation.
When asked if CUET UG acts as a level playing exam, Rohansh replied in favour. “Earlier, students scoring less in board exams were not able to apply at their desired colleges. Also, the board exams across different boards do not have the same level of questions and therefore only the top students from the boards which are lenient get admission to the best colleges. However, with CUET, the fear of elimination is gone,” the top scorer said.
