CUET UG 2023: 50% increase in female candidates; registrations rise by 4 lakh

This year, the number of female candidates has seen a nearly 50 per cent increase while the number of male candidates has gone up by 34 per cent.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recorded 16.85 lakh registrations for the Common University Test (CUET) 2023, of which 13.9 lakh have paid the fee and submitted the application form. There has been an increase of 4 lakh registrations from the debut edition of CUET in 2022, as per the NTA.

This year, the number of female candidates has seen a nearly 50 per cent increase while the number of male candidates has gone up by 34 per cent.

Out of 13.9 lakh candidates, 6.51 lakh are females and 7.48 lakh are males. Last year, around 4.34 lakh applicants were females and 5.56 were male.

UGC Chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar said, “We have also seen an increase in the number of participating universities. In 2022, it was 90, but in 2023 it rose to 242. This significant rise indicates that CUET-UG is becoming a popular option for admissions in UG programmes.”

Among different categories, a substantial growth was recorded in the number of candidates belonging to ST category from 58,881 in 2022 to 95,119 in 2023.

A total of 1,40,307 students from the SC category registered for CUET 2023, recording a jump of 35 per cent. The OBC-NCL category recorded 4,61,022 registrations, an increase of 45.2 per cent. Open category recorded 6,42,443 registrations, a rise of 39.6 per cent.

The EWS category witnessed 60,611 registrations, a rise of 20.5 per cent.

Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar are top states when it comes to the number of registrations. A considerable jump has been seen among student registrations from J&K.
