‘Please remove your shoes’ is a common instruction outside Indian homes. However, at the official residence of Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil (2, Safdarjung Lane, New Delhi), the message for the visitors is quite the opposite — not to remove the footwear. Even when guests offer to remove shoes, the staff dissuade them from doing so. Patil is learnt to have given clear instructions to his staff that no visitor should face even the slightest inconvenience.

In Absentia

Many of the Opposition MPs were surprised to notice the absence of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at Monday’s meeting and mock exercise for Tuesday’s vice-presidential elections, also attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and national president Mallikarjun Kharge. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi was out of the country but he will be there to cast his vote on Tuesday.

Add & Lose

A letter from the office of General Administration branch at the Delhi Police headquarters has flagged illegal constructions in government colonies and residential complexes, which obstruct pathways, corridors, parking areas and emergency exits. The letter pointed out that such constructions not only deface the structures but also cause inconvenience to others. It has asked all the Estate-cum-Welfare Officers concerned to ensure that no unauthorised construction takes place and remove the existing ones. The letter also warned that occupants may even forfeit the house allotment due to such violations.
