Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who was at an event in Delhi on Friday, raved about the quality and taste of pineapples from the state. He said the fruit is being sold across malls in Dubai, Kuwait and Sharjah, while Switzerland is using the pineapples from Meghalaya for baby food as the fruit could pass the stringent food-testing standards for the European market.
The Congress high command’s decision to replace its Uttar Pradesh chief Brijlal Khabri on Thursday surprised many in the party. Khabri, a Dalit leader and former BSP MP, helmed the state unit for just 10 months. There are multiple theories floating around regarding his removal. One is that since the Congress is willing to have a seat-sharing arrangement with the BSP, its chief Mayawati may not like the continuance of a person who had defected from her party at the Congress helm.
