Teenager attacks, bites a policeman on duty; arrested

A teenager armed with a sharp weapon allegedly attacked and bit a policeman on duty at Kharabwadi in Khed taluka of Pune district. The Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested him on charges of attempted murder.

Police constable Shivaji Markad lodged the first information report (FIR) against the accused at the Mhalunge MIDC police station, on Sunday. He was identified as Dipak Ashok Jangle (19).

When the police control room got a call on Saturday night regarding a quarrel in Kharabwadi village police constable Markad, attached to the Mhalunge MIDC police station, rushed to the spot at 9 pm.

When he reached the spot he saw the accused Jangle holding a sharp weapon. Markad asked Jangle to put the weapon down; however, Jangle allegedly attacked the police constable.

Markad escaped unhurt and nabbed Jangle and tried to snatch the weapon away from him but Jangle manhandled Markad and bit his hand, leaving Markad injured.

Police have booked Jangle under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 109,121(1), 132,351(2) and sections of the Indian Arms Act.
