Pune: Sanmitra Sangha,one of the oldest sporting institutions in the city,engaged in the training and development of many Indian sports such as kho-kho,kabaddi and langadi among others,has built an all new sports and fitness centre named Kridamaharshi Haribhau Sane Kridasankul at its Kothrud campus.
The new centre houses a table tennis training academy,an ultra-modern gym,a specially designed and dedicated aerobics and Yoga hall and a nutrition centre.
The table tennis training academy will begun functioning immediately and has six international standard tables. Rajesh Shelar and Rohit Chaudhari have been designated as the head coaches. Aniket Koparkar,a two-time national champion from Pune,will work with the academy as a technical analyst.
To mark the launch of the academy,the Sudesh Shelar Trophy,a district-rank tournament,will be organized at Kridamaharshi Haribhau Sane Kridasankul in association with the Table Tennis Promotion Foundation.
The tournament will take place between August 22nd and 26th and shall have the following categories: Children under-10,Cadet under-12,Sub-junior under-14,Junior under-17,Youth under-21,Mens,Womens and Veterans.
The tournament carries a total prize fund of Rs 35,000. Interested participants should submit their entries to Swati Bendre at Sharada Centre,Erandawane by August 19. Email entries will be accepted at sharada.tt@gmail.com
Deccan Gymkhana boys and girls win titles
Pune: Deccan Gymkhana reigned supreme in the 23rd edition of the Dawn to Dusk basketball tournament conducted by the Modern Past Association at the Modern High School courts. Deccan Gymkhana won both the girls title and the boys title.
Deccan Gymkhana girls team defeated MPA 13-6 in the semi-finals. Neha Kumbhare scored six points. In the second semifinal,Ajinkya Gymkhana,Satara,beat Hoopers 12-3.
In the summit clash,Deccan Gymkhana brushed aside Ajinkya Gymkhana with a 10-2 margin. Shraddha Patil scored four points for Deccan Gymkhana and was ably aided by Priyanka Panda.
Deccan Gymkhana boys beat Bull Frog Dunker 20-11 with Siddhant Shinde logging six points. In the other match,Pune Sub Area beat PYC 11-4.
In the final encounter,Deccan Gymkhana edged the match with a 16-9 scoreline. Siddhant Shinde was the star for Deccan Gymkhana.
Satpute Memorial pool,snooker tournament begins today
Pune:The 12th edition of the Chandrakant Satpute Memorial Pool and Snooker Tournament will be played at the Tables Pool Parlour in Kothrud on Sunday and Monday.
Satish Karad,Jaydeep Deshpande,Ninad Ghag and Gaurav Patange are some of the well-known Pune players who have confirmed their entries for the tournament.
Organised by Tables Group,a total of 150-200 cueists are expected to take part. The total prize money is Rs 50,000. Those who make it to the quarterfinals are assured of getting cash prizes.
The top prize is Rs 11,000 and a trophy. The first runner-up will get Rs 7,000 and a trophy. The second runner-up stands to get Rs 5,000 and a trophy. The third runner-up will get Rs 3,000 and a trophy,while the quarter-finalists will receive Rs 2,000.
