The Pune City Traffic police on Wednesday implemented road closures and traffic diversions in view of the Muharram processions in various parts of the city.
According to the police, the main procession will commence from Shreenath Talkies while four other Muharram processions will be taken out in the Camp, Khadki, Patil Estate and Imamwada areas of Pune.
The main Muharram Taboot procession of the city will commence from Shreenath talkies on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road on late Wednesday afternoon. The procession will pass through Datta Mandir Chowk, Belbag Chowk, Hutatma Chowk (Budhwar Chowk), Shaniwar Wada, Futka Buruj, Gadgil Putla Chowk, Dengle Pool, Juna Bazaar, and Shahir Amar Sheikh Chowk. The procession will culminate in an immersion at the Sangam Ghat.
The procession in Camp will commence from Taboot Street. It will pass through Batliwala Bagicha, Sarbatwala Chowk, Babajan Dargah, Bhopale Chowk, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kohinoor Chowk, Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk and Buti Street. Later, the procession will move from Lashkar through Nehru Memorial Hall, Rasta Peth, Daruwala Pool, Fadke Haud Chowk, Moti Chowk, Sonya Maruti Chowk, Belbag Chowk and finally join the main procession at Shreenath Talkies.
The Khadki procession will commence at Bopodi Road and proceed on the Old Pune Mumbai Highway and culminate with the immersion at the Dapodi Ghat.
The procession from Patil Estate will move via Silk Board and conclude at Sangam Ghat.
The procession from Imamwada will move via the Aga Khan Compound and Rahim Petrol Pump and conclude at the starting point.
A notification in this regard issued by Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said officers of the local traffic divisions will implement the diversions when the processions pass through their areas. The diversions will remain in place till the processions are over.
