One dead, four injured as tempo overturns on Pune-Mumbai E-way

A 37 year old man was killed and four more were seriously injured when a tempo transporting fruits from Pune to Mumbai overturned on Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Saturday afternoon.

The accident took place around 3.40 pm near Kamshet tunnel on the Pune-Mumbai lane of the Expressway. Police said that the deceased Dukhi Bhotan Saha (37) hailed from East Champaran in Bihar and worked as a fruit seller in Thane.

The four injured persons— Rahul Saha (21), Tapeshwar Kumar (30) and Manejar Saha (25), Harendra Kumar— are all residents of East Champaran and currently working as fruit sellers.

An official from Kamshet police station under Pune Rural police said, “The four fruit sellers had come to Pune to purchase fruits from suppliers. At Saswad in Pune, they loaded their tempo with boxes of custard apple and guava and were returning to Mumbai. Near Kamshet tunnel, the tempo driver Harendra Kumar lost control and the vehicle overturned.”

The official added, “One of the four injured persons is on ventilator support. The others are out of danger.”
