Good connectivity, plenty water, at proposed Purandar IT park: Vijay Shivtare

Speaking to The Indian Express, Shivtare said, “People are leaving Pune for Bangalore due to traffic congestion at Hinjewadi"

PurandarHe expects the proposed IT park to create 2 lakh jobs

Purandar MLA Vijay Shivtare said that the location selected in Purandar for a planned IT park near the upcoming International Airport is the best location in the state for such a project. Air connectivity through the airport, rail connectivity at Jejuri, adequate water supply through multiple dams, and an increase in demand for a new IT park due to overcrowding at Hinjewadi were the reasons, according to Shivtare. He expects the proposed IT park to create 2 lakh jobs.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Shivtare said, “People are leaving Pune for Bangalore due to traffic congestion at Hinjewadi. Some companies (want to) go (to Hinjewadi) but there is also a waiting list also. All of them can come here. With this six-lane Palkhi Marg from Saswad to Pune, you can reach within half an hour from Purandar to Pune. Rail connectivity is available at Jejuru which will facilitate the movement of heavy goods.”

He claimed that the location was amongst the best in the state for an IT park due to availability of water. “Pune does not have water now. Of the 30 TMC capacity of Khadakwasla, 22 TMC is being consumed by Pune city itself for drinking purposes. No water is there. Whereas if you take the example of Purandar, a parallel water system is there. Bhadgar Dam is present in Bhor, Nira-Deoghar Dam is there, Gunjavani Dam is present in Velhe, and the Veer Dam is near Purandar. Putting four dams together, it is 52 TMC out of which 10% is for industry and 15% is for drinking. I don’t think this much water is available anywhere in Maharashtra. And not even 5% of it is being used.”
