Gold worth Rs 33 lakh hidden in rectum recovered at Pune airport; 3 held

Officials with the Customs department at Pune Airport intercepted a passenger from Dubai and seized gold worth Rs 33.33 lakh hidden in the rectum.

Customs officials said the gold was in paste form enclosed in capsules. The agency has arrested the passenger as well as two accomplices who had come to receive him.

“On profiling, a passenger arriving from Dubai to Pune by SG 52 flight on September 11 2023 was intercepted. On interrogation, two capsules of gold paste concealed in the rectum were recovered which on extraction led to the seizure of 555.6 grams of 24k gold valued at Rs 33.93 lakh.” Customs officials said.

“Two persons who had come to receive the passenger and collect the gold were also apprehended outside the arrival gate of the airport. Further investigation is in progress” the officials added.

Last month, the authorities had recovered gold worth Rs 12.35 lakh from two passengers who arrived from Singapore on a UK 112 flight. They had gold paste concealed in a special cavity formed in underwear.
