‘Fix responsibilities of investigating officers’

Maulana Mehmood Madani appealed to the Muslims to educate their children.

Maulana Mehmood Madani, the All India General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama -i-Hind,on Thursday, said it was important that the responsibilities of the investigating officers be fixed so that action could be taken against them in incidents of arrests of innocent youths in cases of terrorism.

Madani was speaking at the Husule Insaaf Conference organised by the Jamiat Ulama -i-Hind,Pune district,at the Azam Campus,Pune Camp area.

“Those who have committed crime should be punished. But,the investigating agencies should not target innocent youths in terrorism cases. There are incidents in which innocent people were set free by courts. However,no action was taken against the officers who arrested them. So,it is important to have a policy to rehabilitate people, who are falsely arrested. At the same time,it is also important that responsibilities of investigating officers are fixed,” he said.

Madani added that 50 per cent of the Muslims in the sub-continent lived in India. “Compared to other countries in the sub-continent,the situation of Muslims in India is much better. There are problems, and the fight against it is on. But,Indian Muslims are in a better state.Muslims have played a major role in the development of the nation. Muslims love India, but incidents like the Dhule riots, where police were found burning shops of Muslims, are unfortunate. We condemn anybody involved in terrorist activities,” he added.

Madani also expressed his views on Muslim reservation and education. He appealed to the Muslims to educate their children.
