Doctor’s suicide: Pune police nab married man who duped her posing as single

Police said Savant had allegedly met the deceased doctor on a matrimonial website and promised to marry her.

Pune city police on Friday arrested a man in connection with the suicide of a 25 year old doctor from Pune, who had ended her life by consuming a poisonous chemical at her clinic earlier this month.

Police have identified the accused as Kuldeep Adinath Savant (30), who too is a doctor from Jat in Sangli district of Maharashtra. Police said Savant had allegedly met the deceased doctor on a matrimonial website and promised to marry her.

The father of the deceased doctor has alleged that the accused had cheated her by hiding the fact that he was already married and also took Rs 10 lakh from his daughter on various pretexts.

Police said the deceased had completed her BHMS degree and ran her clinic in the city. On the evening of January 7, she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at her clinic. She was rushed to a hospital in the city where she breathed her last on January 8.

Based on a complaint filed by her father, a First Information Report in the case was registered against Savant at the Bibvewadi police station, under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police launched a search operation to nab the accused. Acting on a tip-off to police sub inspector Shashank Jadhav, the investigation officer, a police team reached Navi Mumbai.

A press release issued by senior police inspector Shankar Salunkhe stated that the police team nabbed accused Savant at Digha in Navi Mumbai on Friday after conducting searches for two days in the area.
