Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday urged the people of Maharashtra to come together against the forces creating rifts within communities in the name of reservation. He also said that his party will support the resolution to increase the 50 per cent reservation limit if brought in at assembly and Lok Sabha.
“An attempt is being made to create a divide in Marathas, OBCs, Dhangars and others. A meeting of political parties has been called by the Chief minister tomorrow. But what’s the use of meeting political leaders? Instead, call community leaders and we will agree to what they decide…the only way to deal with this is to increase the reservation quota limit and let a resolution for the same come in assembly. My party will support it. We will support it in the Lok Sabha,” said Thackeray who was speaking at a public rally at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Thackeray recounted how foreign powers like Abdali defeated the Marathas because of the differences within. “We are large in numbers, we are stronger, powerful and fight exceedingly well. But seeds of division grow immediately on this soil and we need to avoid it even today…in these assembly polls, we have to defeat the traitors who divide our families and parties,” he added.
Earlier Thackeray accused the Eknath Shinde government of luring women voters with the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana ahead of Maharashtra assembly polls and asserted the initiative will stop in two to three months. He also demanded to waive farm loans in line with the government’s announcement of a scheme to write off electricity bills of farmers.
“Many schemes are being launched. This is a ploy to lure women voters before the polls. The schemes are only for two-three months. Their government will not return and even if it returns, the schemes will be wrapped up after that,” he added.
In the recently announced budget, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced sops ahead of state polls, which are likely to be held in October-November. Pawar announced the Mukhyamantri Annapoorna Yojana, Mukhyamantri Yuva Karyaprashikshan Yojana, Mukhyamantri Krishi Pump Yojana as well as Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana and a scheme to provide free education to girls.
“Schemes are being announced but there is a drought when it comes to their implementation. The government is trying to hide its sins with these schemes,” Thackeray alleged.
