THE Anti Corruption Bureau Friday caught the senior inspector and police sub inspector of Wadala TT police station while allegedly accepting a bribe. The complainant registered a case against him at the police station and the senior inspector Chandrakant Sarode (52) demanded Rs Five lakhs while PSI Rahul Waghmode (37) demanded Rs 50,000.
An official said that on September 7, the complainant in the case had a fight with a rival group in Wadala over their community hall. Both sides came to the Wadala TT police station where an FIR was registered against the complainant.
On September 9, Sarode demanded Rs 5 lakhs while Waghmode demanded Rs 50,000 for not naming the complainants daughter in the FIR and taking action against the rival group. Not wanting to make the payment, the complainant approached ACB that verified the complaint and found it to be genuine.
On Friday, following ACB directions, the complainant gave Rs 30,000 to Waghmode while he paid Rs two lakhs as first instalments when an ACB team caught them accepting the bribe red handed. The duo was arrested and will be produced before the court on Saturday.
