Heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai over the past 24 hours, with the city recording close to 100 mm of rains till Wednesday morning.
The weather bureau issued orange alert in Mumbai and Thane on Wednesday, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout the day. A red alert has also been issued for Raigad, Pune and Palghar districts today indicating extremely heavy rains. The IMD, in its morning bulletin, mentioned that intense spells of rains will continue to lash these places in the next 3-4 hours.
On Tuesday (July 18), the city recorded over 100 mm of rainfall at both the weather stations, making it the wettest day in July this year.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Santacruz observatory recorded 52.8 mm of rains till 8.30 am on Wednesday, while the coastal observatory at Colaba recorded 98.4 mm of rains.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) automatic weather systems recorded 47.42 mm of rains in city, while eastern suburbs recorded 50.04 mm and western suburbs recorded 50.99 mm of rain.
The BMC’s bulletin also mentioned about the possibility of water logging in several parts of the city and suburbs and asked citizens to take precautions while moving out.
