Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray are set to hold joint rallies in Maharashtra. A proposal regarding the same is being sent to Congress leadership.
Pawar on Friday held a meeting with Maharashtra Congress leadership to finalise the plan for the next and third meeting of the opposition’s Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which is likely to be held between September 1 and 3 in Mumbai.
According to sources, Pawar categorically mentioned in the meeting that the MVA will unitedly make the Opposition meet a success. “It will be a joint show of strength in Maharashtra. There will be joint rallies of Gandhi, Pawar and Thackeray in the state. The proposal for the same is being discussed with Congress leadership,” said a Congress leader who attended the meeting.
Earlier, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole addressed the press conference along with former CM Prithviraj Chavan after the meeting. “Mumbai is ready for the third meeting of INDIA. Sharad Pawar has attended first two meetings of the opposition alliance. He shared important points regarding bettering the organisation of the meeting,” said Patole.
Patole said that Pawar held a telephonic conversation with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray during the meeting. “The opposition’s meet will be organised jointly by Maha Vikas Aghadi and all three parties will work towards making it a success,” said Patole.
Patole said that over 100 leaders from various opposition parties will be attending the meeting in Mumbai. “We did not discuss seat-sharing in this meeting. It will be discussed when leaders of all three parties are present,” said Patole.
