Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of “insulting” Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by using the word “sraddhanjali” (homage) in a social media post on the Maratha ruler’s birth anniversary.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai after paying tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Shiv Sena chief demanded an apology from Gandhi and also accused him of insulting Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar multiple times.
“Shiv Jayanti is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country and Maharashtra… On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi’s statement is very insulting… This is not only an insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj but also to crores of Shiv devotees and Maharashtra… He (Rahul Gandhi) has also insulted Savarkar ji many times… He should apologise for this mistake,” said Shinde.
Gandhi’s post on X mentioned that mentioned that he was offering “sadar naman and vinamra shraddhanjali” to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary.
Meanwhile, during the day, Shinde and the Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan attended a special screening of the movie “Chhava”, based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Mumbai.
The screening of actor Vicky Kaushal-starrer movie was organised by Sena leader Shaina NC in Mumbai to pay a tribute to Maratha ruler on his 395th birth anniversary.
At the screening, Shinde said that he will request the makers of the movie to release its Marathi version also to ensure everyone in the state can watch it.
The screening of Chaava movie on the Sambhaji Maharaj that too on occasion of Shivaji Maharaj ‘s birth anniversary is right since the movie will convey a right message to the youths. ,”Shaina NC said
