Mumbai police have written to the Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) seeking the immediate demolition of popular South Mumbai eatery Bachelorr’s, citing traffic congestion as the reason.
Almost nine decades old, Bachelorr’s is a popular eatery in Girgaon Chowpatty area and known for serving delicious street-style fast foods like shakes, pizzas, wraps, sandwiches, juices, etc.
Mumbai Police’s DCP Zone-2 office has recently written to the D-ward of the BMC, stating that to avoid any untoward incident or loss of life, the civic officials should revoke all the licences granted to the establishment and demolish the illegal structure immediately. The police have said that the parking in front of the eatery is dangerous from the point of view of vehicular traffic as well as security.
The joint commissioner of police (law and order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary confirmed the development.
The senior IPS officer said that the demolition of Bachelorr’s is needed as the establishment is located alongside the road, which is a VIP route as well as important for the citizens. The vehicles parked at the eatery cause traffic issues that are hazardous and pose a threat to the citizens.
The officials of the D-Ward will decide on the further course of action. They have not written back to the police yet. Sources said that the owners of the eatery are shocked and surprised by the development and have claimed that the traffic congestion on the road is not because of the eatery but because of the ongoing coastal road project and pedestrian movement.
