The Metro services in Mumbai will operate well past midnight daily during the 10-day Navratri festival that begins from October 15 to 24.
The state administration has decided to keep Metro services on Line 2A and Line 7 open till 12.20 am in view of the large crowd that travels late at night during the festival days, sources said.
At present, the timings for the last service from Metro 2A, which runs from Andheri West to Dahisar, and for Metro 7, which runs from Dahisar East to Gundavali, are 10.20 pm and 10.30 pm respectively.
BJP legislator Atul Bhatkhalkar who had earlier urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to extend the train services timing till 12 midnight in view of the 10-day festival rush, Saturday expressed thanks to the CM for conceding to his request.
“It shows the government is sensitive to people and positively considered their issues,” Bhatkhalkar said.
Apart from temple visits during the 10-day festival season, people in Mumbai flock in large numbers to attend cultural events.
