Heavy rains in August have caused damage to agricultural crops in 14.44 lakh hectares in 29 districts in Maharashtra, Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharne said on Friday.
“Due to the excessive rains for the past few days, many districts were affected. A total of 191 tehsils in 29 districts have suffered heavy losses. Kharif crops in more than 654 revenue circles have been damaged,” Bharne said.
While 14.44 lakh hectares of the land has been affected, more than 10,000 hectares of land is damaged in 12 districts alone. The most affected districts include Nanded (6,20,566 hectares), Washim (1,64,557 hectares), Yavatmal (1,64,932 hectares), Dharashiv (150,753 ha), Buldhana (89,782 hectares), Akola (43,828 hectares), Solapur (47,266 hectares) and Hingoli (40,000 hectares).
The crops affected due to the heavy rains include Soybean, maize, cotton, urad, tur and moong. In some places, vegetables, fruit crops, millet, sugarcane, onion, jowar and turmeric crops have also been affected.
The total affected districts are Nanded, Washim, Yavatmal, Buldhana, Akola, Solapur, Hingoli, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Amravati, Jalgaon, Wardha, Sangli, Ahilyanagar, Ch. Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Ratnagiri, Chandrapur, Satara, Nashik, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Gadchiroli, Raigad and Nagpur.
“As per the instructions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the Panchnama work started in the affected areas is in the final stage and appropriate assistance will be provided to the farmers immediately. No farmer will be deprived of assistance. The government stands firmly with the farmers,” said Bharne.
