With Mumbai University remaining under the radar for quite sometime due to its delay in announcing exam results and with an aim to declare the results of the summer session within the stipulated time-frame, the varsity has decided to take action against colleges and professors, who are not participating in the evaluation process.

The university took the decision on Saturday after realising that many colleges and professors are not participating in the evaluation process.

A statement issued by the university’s exam department read, “It has come to notice that many colleges and professors are not taking up the responsibility of assessment of papers. Many of them are seen ignoring varsity’s instructions to participate in the evaluation process. This is leading to delays in declaring results.”

Stating that colleges and professors are legally mandated to participate in the process of evaluation, the statement issued by the Mumbai University said, “The Maharashtra Public University Act allows the varsity to take action against the defaulters. Mumbai University has decided to act on it and letters will be sent to such colleges.”

The university’s exam department is now in the process of preparing data of all such professors and colleges which are not taking part in the evaluation process.

An official from the university’s exam department said, “While the university has powers to take action in such cases as per law; there is no stipulated action given in the Act. Concerned authorities from the university can decide on measures to penalise such colleges. After the data is ready, further plan of action will be decided.”

Stating that all these measures will be taken to ensure the results of the summer session exams are declared on time, the official said, “These results are crucial as students are planning their admission to institutes offering higher education, some of them are even applying abroad. Delay at such times can put the university under the spotlight.”
