The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Workers’ Union led by Advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte has called for a strike from Monday seeking various demands including implementation of 7th Pay Commission to the MSRTC staffers and poor conditions of buses in the fleet of MSRTC.
With over 60,000 MSRTC staffers being part of the Sadavarte’s union, a huge number of staffers is being expected to join the strike and as a result the state transport service could be affected.
After receiving the notice for the strike, the MSRTC has cancelled all holidays of senior staffers and instructed them to be present at the headquarters.
Meanwhile, Minister Uday Samant is said to have invited Sadavarte for a discussion and to convince him to withdraw the strike called by him.
Even as Sadavarte has called for strike, other MSRTC workers’ unions affiliated with NCP and Congress said they do not support Sadavarte’s call for the strike and Sadavarte is misusing the staffers for his own benefit.
“Despite six months of strike by MSRTC staffers in the past two years, the staffers have not received the seventh pay commission. They are being misused by some people to stay in the limelight. We do not support Sadavarte’s call for strike. ST workers union is in a posture of agitation for other demands,” said Sandeep Shinde, President of Maharashtra ST Workers Union.
