15-year-old girl gangraped in chawl, three arrested, 3 minors detained

An officer said, “The girl met one of the minors and his friend at a ground. They took her to a room in a chawl in their two-wheeler on the pretext of some work. The room belonged to a third person, also an accused in the case, who was already waiting there,” said an officer.

“Around 9.30 pm, three other accused arrived at the room to celebrate a birthday. Following this, the two accused who had taken the girl to the room, took her to the mezzanine floor of the structure and allegedly forced themselves on her,” the officer added.

The incident came to light after a neighbour complained of smoke.

“Four persons not related to the rape case were drinking and smoking cigarettes on the ground floor… A local resident saw smoke coming out of the window and informed the police,” said a senior IPS officer.

There, the police found the girl with the six accused. All of them were brought to the police station.

The parent of the girl was informed, following which she alleged that she was gangraped by two men.

The girl was then sent for medical examination. The report is awaited, said police.

The police on Friday arrested the three men and detained the three minors on charges of gangrape under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children under Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The minors were sent to a children’s home.

“While two persons raped her, the other four abetted the crime,” said a senior officer. The arrested men were produced before court, which remanded them in police custody till December 30.
