A 55-year-old man was injured after an acquaintance with whom he was consuming alcohol fired at him at Malad in Mumbai in the early hours of Sunday, the police said.
The victim, Abdullah Baig, was rushed to a hospital, where he is said to be stable and being treated for an ear injury he sustained. The firing took place in the Sanjay Nagar locality in the Kurar area of Malad around 5.30 am, an officer said. Baig and one Guddu were consuming alcohol at the Obaid compound in Sanjay Nagar when the latter allegedly fired a round that hit Baig’s ear following some argument between them.
Baig was rushed to the local hospital by his family members, following which he was moved to J J Hospital. The local Kurar police were soon informed about the incident, following which they visited the spot and recovered an empty cartridge.
An officer said they do not have clarity on the argument that led to Guddu firing on Baig. At this stage, the police do not suspect anyone else’s involvement.
The officer said an FIR has been registered in the case, and they will soon arrest Guddu in connection with the matter.
The police are also verifying the backgrounds of both the accused and the victim to check if any FIRs have been registered against them.
