Man held for raping 90-year-old woman

The victim is undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital, the police said.

Police have arrested a man for allegedly raping a 90-year-old woman at her Tilak Nagar home last week. The victim is undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital, the police said.

According to police, Prabhu Nadar had been consuming alcohol with grandsons of the complainant outside her home on October 9 night. “After some time, Nadar passed out. His friends stole his cellphone and wallet and fled,” said Inspector Dilip Kulkarni of Tilak Nagar police station.

Around 2.30 am, Nadar gained consciousness and after realising his valuables were missing, he began to look for his friends. “Nadar then forced himself into the home of the complainant, who lived alone. He bound her hands with a cloth, gagged her and then raped her and fled,” he said. After Nadar left, the woman freed herself and alerted neighbours, who took her to the police station. Sion Hopsital’s dean Dr Avinash Supe said the victim was out of danger and under observation.
