Ahead of the upcoming Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, the Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has instructed schools to conduct expert-run stress-management workshops for students. In addition, the council has asked schools to educate students in classes 9 to 12 about career guidance sessions organised by SCERT.
With the Maharashtra State Board exams approaching, stress levels among students are naturally rising. To address this, SCERT has directed all schools to hold expert-led stress-management sessions before the exams. These sessions, scheduled for Tuesday, will mark the end of a week-long career-guidance campaign for students in classes 9 to 12. The initiative also includes stress-management training for students in classes 10 and 12, who will be appearing for board exams.
In a circular issued by SCERT, Director Rahul Rekhawar stated, “There will be counselling centres in all schools, irrespective of their medium, private or government. All the activities will be through these centres and local education officers should visit schools to ensure effective implementation of the program.”
The career-guidance campaign, which began last week, includes a variety of activities designed to help students make informed decisions about their careers or for higher education. These included sessions with former students who shared insights on successful careers from their respective fields, talks from industry representatives about employer expectations, and visits to local industries. Additionally, school management committees were instructed to conduct meetings with parents to help them understand the importance of career-guidance sessions to gauge their children’s interests and guide them toward suitable career paths.
This is the first time SCERT has launched such a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness about career guidance. An SCERT official said, “While online career-counselling sessions were available earlier, they were limited to those who knew about them. This campaign, which includes introducing students to these online resources, will help a much larger group of students make well-informed decisions about their higher education and career paths.”
