Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday moved into Varsha bungalow in Malabar Hills. The decision to move into Varsha, officially designated as CM’s bungalow, comes five months after Fadnavis took charge as the CM on December 5, 2024.
“The decision to shift to Varsha bungalow came on an auspicious day, Akshay Tritiya, as per Hindu almanac,” said an official.
In his first term as CM, Fadnavis had occupied Varsha for the entire five-year period—2014 to 2019. Post 2019 Assembly polls, when the undivided Shiv Sena forged an alliance with Congress and NCP, leaving BJP, Fadnavis was relegated to the role of Opposition leader. He had then left Varsha and shifted to Sagar bungalow, thus paving way for then Maha Vikas Aghadi CM Uddhav Thackeray to occupy the bungalow.
However, after MVA was dislodged and Mahayuti came to power during 2022-24, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stayed in Varsha. Whereas Fadnavis as Deputy CM continued to live in Sagar.
Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut had alleged Shinde had planted horns of buffaloes sacrificed in Kamakhya in Varsha. Therefore, he alleged that Fadnavis was not shifting to Varsha.
However, Fadnavis had rubbished Raut’s charges. The CM said, “My daughter Divija is in Class X. It was her wish that we should shift to Varsha after her exams. It was just a matter of few months, so why disturb the set-up.”
Whether it was a decision taken mindfully or sheer coincidence, Class X results were announced Wednesday.
Chief Minister’s wife Amruta Fadnavis took to social media X to announce, “Our minds are filled with joy. Our daughter Divija secured 92.6 per cent in Class X.”
