Maharashtra Assembly Monsoon Session begins: State govt presents supplementary demands worth Rs 41,243.21 crore

Supplementary demands are additional funds sought by the government over the budget demands.

The Maharashtra government on Monday presented supplementary demands worth Rs 41,243.21 crore for financial year 2023-24. Presented by Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, this is the second highest supplementary demands sought by the state government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde since it came to power.

Of the total amount, Rs 34,001.53 crore are from revenue account and Rs 7004.50 crore from capital account.

After the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government came to power in November 2019, cumulatively governments have presented supplementary demands worth Rs 2,27,121.23 crore. In February 2023, during the Budget Session, supplementary demands worth Rs 6,383.97 crore were presented.

Supplementary demands are additional funds sought by the government over the budget demands.

Of the total supplementary demands, the government has proposed an allocation of Rs 6,224.55 crore for Urban Development Department, out of which Rs 2,100 crore are for stamp duty surcharge of Metro Railway. A budget of Rs 3,563.16 crore has been provided to pay Seventh Pay Commission arrears to teaching and non-teaching staff.

The second highest allocation at Rs 5,873.91 crore is for Water Supply and Sanitation Department. Out of this, Rs 5,856 crore is state share for Jal Jeevan Mission scheme. Besides, Rs 1,415 crore has been provided for Jal Jeevan Mission scheme aimed at Scheduled Caste beneficiaries. An allocation of Rs 1,000 crore has been made for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

The government has provided Rs 4,000 crore for NaMo Shetkari Mahasanman Yojana for farmers. A grant of Rs 550 crore has been earmarked for onion-producing farmers. As margin money loan, Rs 549 crore has been allocated for eligible cooperative sugar mills.
