THE MAHARASHTRA government Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, Mahaurja and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVN) for development of 5,220 MW renewable energy projects in the state.
According to an official, Rs 41,000 crore will be invested and around 6,760 jobs will be created, through the MoU which was signed in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the 105th Meeting of Governing Body of Maharashtra State Energy Development Agency (Mahaurja) at Sahyadri Guest House.
Fadnavis, who also holds the Energy portfolio, directed the relevant agencies to speed up the work of ongoing solar power projects in the state.
In order to meet the growing demand for electricity in the state and to provide abundant electricity to farmers, the state government has formulated a policy to implement solar power projects,an official said.
“Central and state governments are promoting renewable energy projects. By 2030, 50 percent of the installed capacity is to be met by renewable energy. Energy stability requires large amounts of energy storage. For this purpose, Mahanirmiti should speed up the construction of solar, water, wind and solar power projects in the state,” Fadnavis said after the meeting. During the meeting the revised budget for the financial year 2022-23 and the proposed annual budget for the financial year 2023-24 of Mahaurja were also approved.
