Actor Govinda on Thursday joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde.

The actor, who is the former MP from Mumbai North, joined Shinde Sena at Varsha bungalow in the presence of CM Shinde.

Govinda said that after his first stint in politics from 2004 to 2009, he never felt he would again come back to the same field.

“I quit politics in 2009. I am back (in politics) after a 14-year-long ‘vanvas’ (exile),” he remarked.

“I will properly carry out the responsibility given to me. Cinema is an integral part of art and culture. Mumbai’s film city is the foundation of modernity all over the world. Many changes have been seen in Mumbai after Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister,” he added.

Govinda also expressed his belief that the task of creating the best film city in the world can only be completed by CM Shinde.

The actor said the development of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unbelievable.

Welcoming Govinda to the party fold, Shinde said that the actor would be the star campaigner for the party.

“Bollywood is very big industry. Govinda ji is willing to solve their problems. He will act as a link between the government and the film industry,” Shinde said.

While it is being speculated that Govinda may contest the Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai North West seat on Sena ticket, the actor said that the chief minister will take a decision on that.

Shinde said that Govinda has not put forth any condition for joining the Sena and has joined the party after being impressed by the work done by the state government.
