Elgaar Parishad case accused Sagar Gorkhe wrote a letter to the DIG, Prisons requesting better access to jail canteen and action against a jail officer who was accused of corruption.

In a letter to the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, dated August 12, Gorkhe noted that an inquiry team had visited the jail on August 8 and emphasised the need for action against a jail officer accused of corruption related to the jail’s kitchen and canteen operations.

Gorkhe’s letter also called for better regulation of the prices for vegetables and chicken provided to prisoners, and requested that access to the canteen be increased from twice to four times a month.

Previously, Gorkhe and lawyer Surendra Gadling, another accused in the case, had complained that prisoners were being unfairly treated, with wealthier inmates receiving VIP facilities and premium food items such as fried chicken and mutton curry at prices ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,000.

They allege that this creates a divide between prisoners based on their financial status. In the letter, Gorkhe urged the inquiry team, led by the DIG, to address these issues and take appropriate action.
