Two Vidarbha districts, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, are being developed as industrial hubs, expected to create employment for 1.5 lakh people, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Sunday, adding that environmental concerns are also taken into consideration.
Speaking at the launch of a coffee table book prepared by the District Mineral Foundation at the rest house in Mul, Chandrapur, Fadnavis said, “Along with industrialisation, Chandrapur should send out the message of protecting the environment. By emphasising skill development and employment, a system will be created to ensure 100 per cent jobs for locals.”
As part of the development plan, concrete initiatives are being implemented in the Chandrapur district through the District Mineral Foundation Fund. These initiatives include the establishment of a cancer hospital in collaboration with Tata Trusts, as well as projects focused on skill-based employment, healthcare, infrastructure development, education, and innovative programmes.
“Chandrapur and Gadchiroli are emerging as industrial magnets, and it is industrial development that will lead to a prosperous economy,” said Fadnavis.
Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to ensure that citizens in mining-affected areas must benefit from mineral funds, Fadnavis added, “Since mining and transportation cause inconvenience to locals, they must be the foremost beneficiaries.”
“Chandrapur district has undertaken many commendable initiatives in the mineral sector. Importantly, projects under the Mineral Development Fund focusing on employment generation, health, development, education, and skill-based innovation are being implemented effectively,” he said.
Fadnavis highlighted the successful completion of the 50-crore tree plantation drive and expressed hope that Chandrapur would set an ambitious new target for tree planting. Maharashtra is the only state in India that has increased its green cover, enhancing its natural environment.
Efforts are now being directed towards raising the state’s forest cover to above 33 per cent. He also commended the Chandrapur district administration for its outstanding work through the Mineral Development Fund.
On the occasion, Tribal Development Minister and Guardian Minister of Chandrapur Ashok Uike, MLAs Sudhir Mungantiwar, Kishor Jorgewar, Deorao Bhongle, along with District Collector Vinay Gowda, CEO Pulkit Singh, Additional Collector Dr Nitin Vyawahare, District Mining Officer Rohan Thavare and other officials were present.
