The state is all set to honour 17 icons, including Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, VD Savarkar, Lata Mangeshkar and Ramnath Goenka, founder of The Indian Express Group, who contributed to Mumbai’s development, by unveiling their busts at the Kilachand Garden in Girgaon on Thursday.
Initiated by Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, the aim of “Heroes of Mumbai Program” is to honor individuals who contributed to the city in various fields such as economic prosperity, safety and cultural enrichment.
Seeking to serve as a source of inspiration for Mumbaikars, other icons whose busts will be unveiled are: Dadasaheb Phalke, Kusumagraj, Homi Bhabha, JRD Tata, Jagannath Shankar Sheth, Annabhau Sathe, Balasaheb Thackeray, Dhirubhai Ambani, Seth Moti Shah, Babu Genu, Ashok Kumar Jain and Sachin Tendulkar. A representational bust of the Koli community will also be set up.
The event will be attended by BJP national president JP Nadda and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
